Motorcycling hobby or job?
A hobby is work you enjoy and do not generally are paid. Work on the other other hand, is a job you must do to keep bread on the table, and the wolf from the door. When your hobby becomes a job without just compensation, get a new or rethinking the old.
When Jerry and I were married, we spent long weekend at his grandparents' house on the river, about two hours home. He was determined to teach me to fish. There's just something about worms and minnows around shaking his hand that keeps my interest in fishing. I'm a puppet. I I love eating fish, but I do not want to catch them and kill them.
One weekend, when we arrived, the nearest neighbors, Pat and Wayne was there. They were an older couple, and spent much time he retired in the lake. As we were unloading, Jerry began to tell them about the news he had heard the fishing minnow in place. The movement was reported crappies in shallow water, and biting hard. I've never seen so much enthusiasm. "Let's Go Buddy, I hear Wayne. The two men begin to play fight boxes, rods, reels, lights, running lights, life jackets, nets, beverages, food supply and two buckets of fish in the boat. The motor boat was picked up and were to water with almost a wave. The last words I heard one say that Wayne was "Wait for cooking. We will bring some fresh fish."
Pat looked at me after they left. "Come on Honey," she said. "I'll show you how to capture the real fish." Walked to his boat and jumped in. I looked around. I saw a cane pole. No rods, reels, or other face was in sight. Having never learned how to swim, I looked at the old tattered life pads preserver seat with great concern. "Do not worry," she laughed. "I'll save you, if I have to. I guarantee that we will have fish for dinner and fish that will be brought to the table. "Being a newcomer to fishing, I had no idea how this would happen without bait or tackle, but was caught a year much more than me. Pat cranked up the boat and went in the opposite direction of Jerry and Wayne.
"You have a secret fishing hole," I asked. Jerry told me most of the fishermen, who knew the river was fished favorite places and rarely shared these places. Pat just laughed. The dusk was falling and darkness approaching.
In Alabama in the spring, the days are warm but the nights cool quickly. In this late spring day, the darkness was fast approaching. Crickets sang. The bats were flying around looking for food. The moon was coming. I was thinking how we intend to go when the engine started puttering and the boat begins to slow. I looked around to see where we were. Pat was pulling up the old broken down one slot.
"Grab the rope and throw it across the stack, she said. Once I got tossed around, she took the paddle and began paddling to the edge of the pier. "We'll leave here. The boat is easy to see when we get back. "She said.
"Get Back", I thought. Where in the world are we going? The station gave me chills. I was sure Pat would have to make good on her word to save me when I've fallen through rotten boards. The house I could see in the distance did not seem much better. Dogs start barking. I know many of you love dogs, but the truth of the matter is not just that I can not swim and am afraid of the dark, but the dogs, especially large dogs, makes me want to climb the nearest tree and wait for rescue. I admit it. I am a coward! These dogs were very big race for us with their jaws open and teeth bared. I prayed.
Pat took everything in stride. She called him by name and they have calmed down. My father, who tried his best to help me for years to overcome my fear of dogs, drilled a true home for me. "If you show fear, the dogs know it, and then become more nervous itself. You want to put a brave front and ignore them. Never run. Stay there until you get used to, "he would say. I remembered his words. I looked at the dogs. Nonsense, I thought I'm running like the hounds of Satan is behind me, and climb the tree the first time I think. I was so concerned about the dogs that I had failed to notice the man walking towards us. His message to all the dogs sent them running back to the house.
In the light seemed not of the moon shiners My mother would describe me as she was warning me to stay away from as I entered my son years. Being from the mountains of North Alabama, where the counties are "dry", meaning they do not allow the sale of alcoholic beverages, the moon shone was a way of life that we all heard. It flourished. The man coming toward me was dressed in overalls pair. He had an old hat pulled down low on his face. He had a shot in the hand. As he got closer, I could see his overalls were torn, irregular and covered in what looked like dried blood and dirt. Murder immediately came to mind. About I asked if he had killed, and are we to be next? I pulled the shirt from Pat, who I had not realized I was holding him. She continued walking to his meeting. He opened his mouth and shone the flashlight in your face Pat, I saw a perfect set of white teeth. Now, surely, a man can not be all bad if he cares enough to keep your teeth look good.
"Hello Pat, what can I do for you two ladies looking for fun," he said.
"John, Judy'm training on how to put a fish on the table after each fishing trip. We need a stringer of crappies good if you have them, and I think a great catfish or bass would be around us out, "said Pat. John began to smile and walk. We follow along behind. The road was strewed with ice buckets and buckets of old foam. There were several boats sitting in various conditions, none of which was good. The light in the house lit our way as we choose to walk through the garbage. Finally got a boat home. Outside the house boat were several tubs full of fish. The water was flowing in tubs to keep them alive. John began to arrive in bathtubs and put that fish and that fish in a Stringer. In the tub past, he caught a catfish that I could not arrest him was so great. "What should we do that John. Just put it in my account and I'll catch next time. "said Pat. John just smiled and took us back to the boat.
I could hear him laughing Pat and talking about retirement. He said he would never retire, while not as there were fish in the River. Back to the boat, Pat the fish stored in fish as well. "Who is this man, "I asked.
"He's a joke man. Every day he baits his lines and trot back later to see them. He has hundreds lines running river. He ties a trot line from bank to bank or a line floats in streams that feed the river. He hooks spaces on the line and bait them. So later, perhaps until the next day he goes back and checks his arrest. Most of the time he sells his fish to the local restaurant, but he always keeps back a little bit sell to people like me who like to rely on actual fish for dinner, "explained Pat." Trot Fishing is his hobby and he also makes a pocket change small. "This hobby sounded like a lot of work for me.
To be honest, I never used to approach Pat to put fish on the table. I had confidence Jerry's ability to catch them. Fishing was his hobby for years, and he worked hard for it. How he used to say, sometimes he caught fish and sometimes the fish got him.
The hobby is just the job you like. If motorcycling is your hobby, you know that takes work. First you have the expense of the bike, insurance and license. If the motorcycle is just a hobby, get the maximum fun out of it. If your bike is sitting in the garage, basement or garage, rather than being mounted, because you do not have time to walking, cycling is broke and you do not have the money to get it fixed, the weather is bad all day outside, you have other obligations that must come first place, you do not have the equipment you need to walk, or so prepare ahead.
Living across the street from us is a couple who have been assembled for years and years. In summer, we see that her husband cut the grass as soon as he comes home on Friday. His wife goes to the grocery way home and stocks to the kitchen to next week. They wash clothes on week nights, when they enter the work. Saturday mornings are there on the bikes. Most often, we see again until Sunday afternoon. If you want free time to ride, you must make it available to stay organized with your other obligations.
Decide where their priorities lie. Getting your bike up and running correctly must be the priority of his cycling hobby. Achieving this priority, in accordance with all the other projects you have that need and need cash is the key to happiness to enjoy your hobby. Jerry and I keep our changeover. We roll the change in savings and deposit our hobby account every two weeks. Small amounts regularly deposited sum. Each day they empty our pockets in our change jar. We do not dig for change in the boxes. We fish out of the dollar comes from. We keep changing and put it on the bottle. We put the left over grant money the pot. If I cut coupons and save money at the supermarket, I got myself into my savings jar change the amount I saved. If Jerry gets an invitation to lunch and not have to pay, it puts the usual lunch money in the jar. Sometimes we eat out together and save money that would normally have spent on our bottle. Especially, if something special is coming whether we know we will need money for. We have more money than you? No. We live and breathe on a budget. We at least we can use this money to our hobby, whether it is for gas, repairs or new equipment. We have emergency plans for its economy to their advantage with our change. There are areas to spend money where you can also save a little here and there. By the time warm weather arrives that bike will be fixed and on the road with the money you have saved.
Acquire the equipment you need to mount another priority. Saddlebags, tool bags can wait. A helmet does not can. Buy it first. His head protection is the most important part of your journey. Live to ride another day when you have a spill, use a point of good quality or Snell helmet. Our helmets are Bell Sprint Snell and DOT approved. They are great!

Controlling the weather is outside my sphere of competence. What I I can do is when the weather is too poor to leave the house is to use the time to catch up on work that needs to be done, spend time on the phone with relatives who do not have heard from me in a while, cook some meals ahead and freeze them, call the children and invite them to dinner, spend some quality time with Jerry. I like to spend time scrolling on the net, chatting with other riders, seeing what's out there to buy or exchange. Rainey days and nights of winter are short good times for these activities. One thing I do is I will not regret the fact that I'm stuck at home. Jerry's boss use to say "Lock the battles you can win and let the rest go. "I can not win every battle and win over time. I can just get ready for another day walking as possible. When he comes, I am the first out the door.
