Safety Tips for Lake Lovers
Ahh … the attraction of the lake … its sparkling blue water … as the cool refreshing splashes on the skin a hot day in summer. There's nothing like it, and with so many ways to enjoy spending time there, it's no wonder millions flock to the lakes place each year.
While the desire for fun and relaxation can be calling everyone to the lake, it is important that the safety of sunlight and water be first place in the mind of every lover of the lake. With so many types of lake activities, there are also so many ways that accidents can occur. The safety tips below will help to ensure that you and your loved ones have positive memories lake and not negative or even tragic ones.
1.) Sun Protection – It may sound simple, but nothing ruins a day at the lake as a painful burn, and with incidents of skin cancer ever increasing sun protection should not be taken lightly. To help prevent sunburn, sun damage, premature aging and skin cancer, you and your family should not rely on sunscreen alone. Choose a filter good solar water-resistant with an SPF of 15 or higher. Reapply it every two hours as recommended on the label and after sweating, swimming or drying with a towel. Wearing a light shirt sleeves, a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses for added protection. Even the eyes and scalp can get sun burned. Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration. Your body will stay hydrated not just by being in the water. Also, avoid the sun if possible between the hours of 10:00 and 16:00, when the harmful effects of sun are strongest.
2) swim to safety. – Learn to swim and to ensure that all your family members know how to swim. If you or your loved ones can not swim, contact your local American Red Cross and enroll in a diving course. Choose a clean, well maintained, supervised area. An area with a lifeguard is even better. Any swimmer, even good ones, can have an unexpected emergency in the water. Never swim alone. Stay away from areas with water cloudy, drop offs, underwater flora and how they can be dangerous. Avoid diving. Among the water feet first. It is much safer.
. 3) Navigation Personal Watercraft and – A ride in a Boat or use of personal watercraft such as jet skis can be very rewarding. They can also be very dangerous if the ground rules safety are not followed. Before using any boat or vessel, make sure you know the local laws and regulations on operating them and obey them. The driver and others on board must wear lifejackets Coast Guard approved that are in good condition. Be extremely cautious around swimmers, other boats and ships, and others in the water. They operate at a low speed until it is in open water, away from swimming areas and docks. No kidding! Do not go near other boats or ships do not jump wakes. Not only is this dangerous behavior, it is generally illegal.
In addition to the guidelines set forth above, never mix swimming operation of marine vessels or / with the use of alcohol. A little common sense along with the desire to keep you and your family safe goes a long way to ensuring its activities in the lake create pleasant memories you'll cherish for a lifetime.
