World War II
Mar Marlin served most of the war in the Pacific, which includes the ports of call in Australia, Panama, Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, Guam, Saipan, Eniwetok, Leyte Gulf, and Tinian of the Admiralty, Babelthaup, Caroline, Palau, Philippines, New Hebrides Islands and the Marianas. ports U.S. Pacific included Camp Stoneman, Honolulu, San Francisco, San Pedro, Seattle, Portland and Port Hueneme.

Captain George Ekstrom went to sea at age 13 in 1898 as cook. He later became an ordinary seaman, a sailor possibility, and he worked in various capacities coming up the stairs at school lasts until he became owner of his own ship. Post War Service
On May 2, 1946 Mar Marlin was transferred to the U.S. Commission Maritime and stood as part of the Fleet Reserve Lee Hall, VA, in the James River. In 1947 Isthmian Steamship Company acquired Sea Marlin and changed its name to SS Steel Director. The contract to convert Sea Marlin troops to freighter was awarded to JK Welding Company, Yonkers, New York, at a cost of $ 300,000. Isthmian Steamship Company was sold to States Marine Lines in March 6.1956. Director Steel remained in service until sold for scrap to Shipbreakers Taiwan, Kaohsiung, Republic of China in 1971.
The following is a history of damage, rescue, repair and remodeling Steel Director during the period October-December 1950 climate heavily damaged the rudder, boats and assembly. These repairs were made in Houston, TX. 7/11/50: On the trip from Galveston, TX to Haifa, Israel reached the pier in Gulfport, MS, with damage for the blades and shaft. Repair # 2 rescue crane arm, 7 and 4 ply hatch rescue copper; repairs at Baltimore MD. 8/20/52: On his trip to Houston, TX Calcutta, India reached Congress Street Wharf, New Orleans, LA, damaging six stakes. 2/1/55: Hit propeller submerged object reference. 7/12/55: Dry-docked in New York, NY for initial repairs to the most complete in Galveston, Texas, in October 1955. 8/9/57: During the trip to Baltimore and Saigon, South Vietnam to Bangkok, Thailand struck a submerged obstruction. Again on 12/1/57 during the trip to Baltimore MD and the Philippines to Surabaya, Indonesia and Singapore, propeller struck submerged object. All repairs done in Galveston, Texas, in March 1958. 5/18/58: Struck submerged object in the passage Mobile, AL to New Orleans, LA. Repairs completed at Baltimore, MD in April 1959. 12/24/59: In Chittagong, India collided with Pyidawnyunt steam, with little or no damage and arrived in Calcutta, India on 12/27/59. 10/27/60: Grounded in the Houston Ship Channel while en route from Galveston, TX. Repairs delayed until August 1961. Rudder was damaged in the grounding of the Suez Canal on the trip from Calcutta, India to Houston, TX 1/25/61. Towed to Port Said, Egypt cable, where they were made Temporary repairs. Towed by rescue vessel Svitzer to Palermo, Italy, where permanent repairs were made. 7/14/61: hit the wall blocking the Costa Ste Catherine Lock while transiting the St. Lawrence Seaway route from Montreal, QB Kenosha, was in ballast. Struck wall closure of Lower and Upper Beauharnois Locks while transiting the St. Lawrence River Seaway. Arrived Baltimore, MD 9/6/61 New York, NY for repairs to damage sustained bottom plates Deferred 10/27/60 sustained more damage in St Lawrence Seaway. 9/10/63: turbine generator damaged as a result of the negligence of the engineer claimed, while the ship was en route from Madras, India Calcutta, India. partial repairs made in New York in December 1963. 6/7/68: Struck submerged object in the Mississippi River while en route from Baton Rouge, LA to Houston, TX and Calcutta, India. Repair completed New York, NY July 2, 1968. 05/03 – 8 / 69: Damaged in bad weather during the trip to Porto Grande, Cape Verde. York to New Orleans, and New York, LA. partial repair completed August 5, 1069 in New York, NY. 1/7/70: Grounded with no damage reported. 6/23/70: collided with the Boat in Yokohama, Japan, traveling from Saigon, Vietnam South Seattle, WA. Damage to the propeller fixed at Todd Shipyards in Seattle, WA in August .. 9/9/70: It Sattahip, Thailand, Tacoma, WA with insufficient cooling after repairs proceeded to Qui Nhon, South Vietnam. 5/17/71 last trip in March Marlin SS / Steel Director of Saigon, South Vietnam arrived at Kaohsiung, People's Republic of China prior to 6/10/71, which was dismantled.
