How do I seal the seams on a custom Boat cover?

I'm currently doing a cover for my boat sailboat. I am using the canvas because I have material readily available to me. I'm worried that my seams can leak. I'm thinking of cover coat with waterproofing spray to help to shed water and leaves. Amendments shall be under stress and I'm looking for something different to sealing in a can in which the seal joined pieces and still have protection against leaks. If anyone has any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
