Boat Covers Tahoe

Is this oil change rear necessary?

Just dropped off our '05 Tahoe Z71 for a possible leak in the differential rear. Dealer call and found Front Axel leak, oil leak and the rear tray to be leaking. We have an extended warranty for all $ 100, deductible but is covered. He recommended to change the oil on the back and because it is synthetic, it would be an additional $ 150. This is necessary and the price (from the dealer) about right? Sometimes I think our "Podunk Town" local dealer charges a lot. Is that expensive oil and / or cargo in bulk work? BTW-We've never had the oil changed in the rear to tow a Boat and the mileage is 50k. If it makes a difference.

Jinxie, I would not have the difference in service unless the axle has been submerged in water. Yes, the rear axle synthetic fluid is very expensive. We have the same fluid in our International Trucks used in our fleet. These trucks are used in severe service, however International pays a service interval of 5 years or 150,000 miles. Unless the axle has been submerged in water. Since you mentioned that you tow a boat, the only concern I have is when you are backing the trailer into the lake to the boat launch, is the axis of its Tahoe never enter the water? If so, then the axle fluid should be changed. The water causes damage to the bearings. If the shaft was never in the water, then save your money!
