Can I speed up the death certificate?

In a published case also my friends ex-husband went missing off a fishing Boat on a trip to Mexico to Califonria. It has virtually disappeared, and police and Coast Guard are calling the event a blind alley. She has a child with the missing man. She needs of a death certificate to collect their Social Security benefits and life insurance. She was told she must wait seven years. I noticed that when Steve Forbes missing His wife had a death certificate about a year later. How can my friend get one?!

You have to petition the Court. Whether or not you can actually do this will depend on the law in your state.
