Our Boat is no longer drive? Any ideas?

We took it out on Monday to a sandbar. We got there fine, but when we went to leave he realized he could not drive. Fortunately, we have trailer safe to return home, but does anyone have any idea what we can look to us to try to fix same? The marina wants $ 90 just to look at it, the more it costs for parts and labor. Any information is helpful, thanks! (It's a '78 Checkmate Indoor / outboard). We go a little boat, but had been starting to have not used the last few months, until this past weekend when was working (lol its old and very angry) … and we did not go over the bar – its very popular place in which we live to park the boat on the shore and go down and party. We're very careful about the move as the tide goes out, etc. My boyfriend was a boat all his life so he knows the basic rules etc, but not much about the mechanics. Thanks for the input!

There is a steering lock of any kind involved? Or is there a steering wheel lock in some can you find? And there are grease fittings on the steering box, cable, engine mount, transom has been served? … Someone who means to take a grease gun full of grease recommended manufactures marine engines and squeezed in a little? Usually until you see grease oozing out of the ordinary. Or have a cable or something mechanical broke? Worth a look see. Boat owner and is worth interrogating, users, mechanics. And it greasers service alone. But you have to figure out why the direction out, or broke in the first place. Could be something, or several. Your local library should have a book in the maintenance / repair / troubleshooting for the boat / motor / drive combination you have.
