The benefits of LED lighting
LED Lighting has been around for a long time, however, until recently was not considered a good source light to white light. Recent developments in technology made it possible for an LED to provide light as white as a conventional bulb, thus becoming a viable source of lighting for various types of applications. Light Emitting Diodes are currently seeing heavy use in car lights.
LED's abbreviation for Light Emitting Diode. This type of lighting is powered semiconductors and the recent developments in technology is able to emit as much light as a light bulb without the energy loss as heat. This type of lighting is more energy efficient and will last throughout the regular light bulb available the market today. California, which is always at the forefront of countries in energy saving and environmental protection laws are in the approval process and impending ban on all incandescent bulbs by 2010, it only stands as proof that the LED illumination can be used in all aspects of daily life as a viable alternative to the incandescent lamp.
Lets look at the differences between LEDs and conventional lighting currently available:
First we have old faithful incandescent lights to create light by running a current through a thin filament that heats to a temperature sufficiently high, thus producing visible light. This process is highly inefficient, because 98 percent of energy used to create light using this process is lost as heat. The life cycle of a typical incandescent lamp is about 1000 hours.
Fluorescent bulbs work by passing a current through a mercury vapor, which in turn produces ultraviolet light, which is then absorbed into the light by a phosphor coating that will begin to glow. This process is more efficient than incandescent light, but the energy is lost, creating the ultra-violet light, which is then absorbed by the coating to loosen light. In addition, the mercury vapor can be hazardous to your health if the lamp. Fluorescent lamps have a lifetime much longer then incandescent bulbs do. The lifetime of a fluorescent lamp is approximately 10,000 hours.
Now we come to the LED light. This illumination reaches its illumination by the group Light Emitting Diodes in an orderly manner, thus creating a unified beam. This cluster can consist of many white LED or a mixed group colored LED, which emits white light when combined. The advantages of LEDs are:
No tube or filament to break
Light Emitting Diodes have a longer lifespan than incandescent and fluorescent lights
Power consumption is lower then any of the other
Due to its small size can be sued in various types of lighting applications.
Very little energy is lost to heat.
LED lighting emits more light per unit of current then most of today's conventional light, therefore making the number one choice for energy saving devices. Energy bills can be reduced to 30 percent by switching to this source of light. Due to its construction Light Emitting Diodes are very durable which usually last one hundred times more conventional then lighting products. Since this type of lighting do not emit heat, which poses little or no danger in order to contribute to cause a fire. The longevity of this type of lighting is difficult to overcome. Generally, LED lights will last up to 50,000 hours, which gives them a life of waiting around 10 years before needing to be replaced.
Many forms of LED lighting are available for every aspect of daily life. LED Lamps are being used in flashlights, residential lighting, automotive, and landscape lighting. more and more signs are also using this source of light. If you look at a traffic light near you really have seen an LED light in action. LEDs are also coming into the arena lighting rope, the Boat's lights, and floodlights.
