Boat Outfitting Guidelines
So you thought the boat was expensive! Wait until you start buying all the arts "necessary" which must be secure and to use a boat for the entire length.
So, first things first. Here is what the U.S. Coast Guard says you must have for all boats
* One type of Coast Guard approved life jacket must be on board for each person on the boat. For boats 16 ', but under 65 "is also a type V, type throwable PFD.
* An electric distress light or three combinations (day / night) red flares when operating between sunset and sunrise. For boats 16 'but under 65 "flag of distress also an orange and a choice of electric light relief, or three orange smoke, hand or floating signs of distress and an electric light or three combinations (day / night) red flares: hand of meteors, or the type of parachute.
* A Marine Type USCG BI fire extinguisher for boats 16 'but less than 26 years. E 26 'to less than 40' a USCG marine type B-II or two BI extinguishers if your boat has an inboard engine, enclosed spaces where fuel or flammable and combustible materials store, closed living spaces, or permanently installed fuel tanks. A fixed system is equal to one BI. For boats 40 'but less than 65' Marine One Type Three BI or BI USCG fire extinguishers. A fixed system equals one or two BI B-II, if the above conditions exist.
* If your boat was built after April 25, 1940 and uses a gasoline engine indoors or in the fuel tank compartment, it must have natural ventilation. If it was built after 31 July 1980 must have an exhaust blower.
* One way enough to make a sound like a whistle or an air horn, but not a human produced noise. . Moreover, the boats of 39.4 m or greater, must have a sound signaling appliance capable of an efficient sound signal, audible for 1 / 2 miles with duration 4 to 6 seconds. You should also bring a bell with a clapper that has a smaller mouth than 7.9 cm in diameter.
* Navigation lights must be by the sun at dawn.
* Backfire Flame arresters required on boats gasoline engine manufactured after April 25, 1940, except outboard motors.
* If you have a toilet installed, you must have an operable MSD Type I, II or III.

Now for some things you really should also have on board.
* A anchor (or two) of sufficient size and suitable for the type of water you are Boating, along with a large anchor chain and rode.
* Dock heavy lines enough to hold the boat to a pier.
* The VHF radio.
* A first aid kit.
* An emergency flashlight.
With all the above Now you're ready for the boat close to shore safely. You may have some desires as downriggers, planer boards, skis, towables and the likes, but all these come with time in the water and figuring just what you want to do to enjoy your time afloat. But above all, be safe, be courteous and remain aware of their surroundings. And have fun!
