Boat Lights Navigation Light

Can I join two cables together caliber size difference without causing problems?
My son has a new fishing Boat and he asked me to call the new navigation , Deck lights and radio he bought. The deck lights and radio did not come with power cord itself. But the navigation lights, no. The power cord I have is a little thicker than the wire coming out of the two navigation lights. My question is: would it be correct to use my cable a little thicker to complete the connections? Thanks Thanks Noelene Luck! I gave him a thumbs up.
Noelene problem is not thicker the better.
