Requirements for Boats in Florida
Boat owners in Florida are required to have a number of safety devices on his boat. All of these safety devices must meet the requirements of the U.S. Coast Guard.
There must be a Coast Guard approved device personal flotation device (life jackets) for each person in the boat when it is in the water. People do not have to use a lifejacket at all times when they are the boats, but the lifejacket must be accessible.
Boats that are over 16 meters in length shall make a bid capable Coast Guard approved lifesaving. This is a device that can be thrown to a person who falls overboard so they can stay afloat until the rescue.
Children under six years of age are required to wear lifejackets when the Coast Guard approved boats are on board with moving less than 26 feet long. These kids do not have to wear life jackets when the boat is moored or anchored.
A boat with a cabin or compartment closed or others of a built in fuel tank must carry a fire extinguisher. Any fire extinguisher used on a boat must meet the requirements for marine use.
Any boat operating in Florida must hold a rattle to warn other boats. This can be a horn or a whistle of the referees. Boaters should be noted that the use sirens of boats than ships of police or emergency is illegal in Florida.
Vessels over 16 meters in length must take at least signs of visual discomfort, if they are operated after dark. A visual distress signal is usually an outbreak or a berry gun that can fire so rescuers to see and find a boat in distress. Crafts with more than 16 feet in length must also take at least three days of distress signals as well.
The boats that are out after dark must carry Coast Guard approved navigation lights. Those at the time that limits visibility such as fog also to carry navigation lights.
It is illegal for private boats in Florida to carry lights or revolving lights similar to those used by vessels police.
Boat toilets (heads) must meet the requirements of the Coast Guard in Florida.
All boats operating in Florida waters must have a muffler or other device that limits the noise of boat engines. The only exception to this rule is for the boats taking part in races and regattas.
A police officer may stop any boat in Florida waters and monitor their compliance with safety standards. The police may order any vessel that violates regulations from the water.
