Sea Fishing Off My Jetski HELP!?
Hi, I have only done light fishing off a Boat in the past of friends. I start fishing my jetski, i have bought some equipment and I just need some help, tips and suggestions. I'm going fishing in the area of North Wales, Cardigan Bay, Gwynedd Abersoch mainly. You did not mention a lifejacket. The purpose is obvious and self explanatory. You sounded like you're going out there alone. If you venture away from or towards areas with little boat traffic, which in itself is not secure. I'm sure you know the jet ski should shut down automatically when you fell. Well, mechanical devices are not 100% reliable. I saw a guy dropped his jet ski and just kept on going. In one incident, ski, guy continued to direct the jet to a very high speed after he fell. It was a very funny at first until someone realized that it is not going to stop by himself until he ran out of fuel. We ended up chasing the unmanned jet ski in the open sea. It took a good 15 minutes to catch up with that thing. Due to rough seas, was used at least another good 15 minutes of stopping. By the time we returned, we are already very low on fuel. If this kind of thing happened and you're on the way out there alone, the consequences would be unimaginable. By the way, that jet ski with kill switch disabled was very young. My advise not to leave without a life jacket and try not to venture very size alone. As for fishing 5 / 0 hooks are too big for mackerel. 5 / 0 hooks are good enough to tuna now. Your 5 / 0 Hokki Pink Tail rig will be more suitable for bottom fish with the big mouth (if any in the area). For mackerel, equipment with size 4 hooks are plenty of open water. Instead of two games, I'll bring at least one extra set of insurance. If you do not just enough to keep the tension on the line, equipment could tangle especially when there are more than 3 fish in it. Untangling the platforms can be difficult and sometimes impossible. I recommend you also bring extra set of probes similar to Hokki Rabo pink size 8 and / or size 10 hooks for small baitfish. Live baitfish will work in a great variety of fish (But will not miss the mackerel bait), small mackerel could be used as live bait well. If there is a possibility that live baitfish will be used, I'll bring a small assortment of live bait hooks size between the size from 4 to 5 / 0. I will also bring a leaky bucket with a lid that serves as a live bait well. live bait cage folding also will work. If you're willing to carry more items, I recommend a couple, like irons Tady AA that could be used to yoyoing well as on the surface. Incidentally, why you want to take a big spool of line with you? I think a small spool of fluorocarbon leader will serve you much better.
