Spare the rod …… and lose the fish!
I am often asked "What is" better "to use the stick?" For this or that.
'Best' is a relative term. There are many different types that will do the job, so many of them comes down to what you prefer to use. Then all I can do is give you my opinion of what I think is the best type for a given situation.
Catfishing covers a large part of the territory, only a part that involves bars. And what would best work for Channel Catfish from the bank, would be near useless for Trophy Blue Catfish Flatheads or a Boat. When selecting a stem, keep in mind that even if you're fishing for Channel Cats in the range of 1.5 pounds, there's always the chance that you will call a monster blue or flathead. I'm from smaller and simpler to large to make it easier to understand the full scope.
At the lower end of the spectrum, we bullheads, usually captured the coast. For these little fun folks, nothing more than a cane pole and a can of worms is needed. For fishing from shore, even to moderate water movement, I prefer 8 'Medium Action Ugly Stick Big Water spinning rod. The extra length comes in handy when fishing from shore.
For more Channel Catfish Blues and a boat, I prefer the Eagle Claw GRX Series. I know you will say "But these are salmon and trout Ros." This may be the case, but they also are ideal for large catfish from a boat. They are sturdy and durable, having a good time raising his fist to fish when needed, and has a backbone and heavy to heaving big fish as possible.
