Kings Dominion is an amusement park located in Doswell, Virginia in Hanover County, 23 miles (37 km) north of Richmond and 83 miles (134 km) south of Washington, DC on Interstate 95.
Park 400 acres (1.6 km2) is currently owned by Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, and was part of the former Paramount Parks chain that Cedar Fair acquired from CBS Corporation on June 30 2006. The park was named after its sister park, Kings Island in Kings Mills, Ohio, which opened in 1972. Both parks were originally built and owned aka Kings of Keco Entertainment Company. While Kings Island has been named as a combination of Kings Mills (location) and Coney Island (theme park that was built to replace), Kings Dominion's name was more than likely a reference to the nickname of Virginia as the "Old Dominion".

History
In early history as Kings Dominion (1975-1989)
The entry Park seen from the viewpoint of the replica of Eiffel Tower
Kings Dominion officially opened in 1975 with 15 walks. However, in 1974, the park had a "soft" (key, low partial) opening only for the now defunct Lion Country Safari attraction and a junior roller coaster, now called Scooby Doo Phantom of the Coaster. Also in 1974, the park had ended the Rebel Yell roller coaster race (designed by John Allen of the Philadelphia Toboggan Company), however, would not open until 1975 with the rest the park. When the park was launched in spring 1975, which also included a log flume, antique cars, steam train, and a set of flat rides. Another roller coaster, Galaxie, was located in the woods near Lake Charles man, who had an increase of 10 acres (40,000 m2) property of the park. In addition, 1/3-scale replica of Kings Dominion Eiffel Tower, which has an observation deck from which visitors can see the whole park was opened by the Park Station of the first operation full. In addition to the Lion Country Safari, the original thematic areas of the park was called The Happy Land of Hanna-Barbera, Virginia Old Coney Island (renamed Candy Apple Grove before next season).
Kings Dominion added his rollercoaster fourth, a Schwarzkopf shuttle loop known as Kobra King in 1977. King Kobra had a launch weight of 50 tons and fall against the roll was the first launched roller coaster park. It was in the park for nine seasons before being transferred to Jolly Roger Amusement Park in Ocean City, Maryland. After several more relocations, it continues to operate today as Katapul Hopi Hari in Brazil. Also in 1977, Kings Dominion was one of several amusement parks used as sets for the film Rollercoaster.
In addition, King Kobra, Kings Dominion opened a camp and their well-known Lost mountain in the world before the end of the 1970s. Originally, the Lost World had three rides: a flume ride called Journey to Atlantis, an attraction for Children's DOOZ known as Earth, and a rotor called Time Shaft. Journey to Atlantis was replaced by Rio Haunted themed flume ride in 1980. Kings Dominion would add their second wooden roller coaster, the Grizzly, in the forests of the Old Virginia section of the park in 1982. Kings Dominion opened its rapids ride, White Water Canyon in Old Virginia, in 1983. Also in 1983, a 13 year old boy died while riding on a roller coaster Galaxie. A balance, reversing pirate ship known as the Berserker was added International Street in the following year. In 1984, a tour of Smurf, Smurf Mountain replaced the ride mine in the Lost World. Since then, the Lost World was known as Smurf Mountain. The mountain was rebuilt in 1997 and was occupied only by Volcano: The Blast Coaster since 1998.
The replica of the Eiffel Tower at Kings Dominion
After three season without a new coaster, Kings Dominion revealed his cart TOGO roller coaster up, Shockwave in 1986, the same year that the park removed King Kobra. Shockwave, as King Cobra has a loop, but also has a propeller. (The similarity of the name King Cobra roller coaster at Kings Island, which was a stand-up coaster similar to Shockwave, closed in 2002.) The roller coaster third and last time that Kings Dominion added during the 1980s was Avalanche, which remains the only Mack bobsled roller coaster United States. Avalanche trains are themed after the United States, France, Germany, Canada and Switzerland, sleds, so the drivers in different trains can simulate being in a bobsled race at the Winter Olympics.
Although the Lion Country Safari attraction was the first part of the park open, which was extinguished after Paramount bought the park. Much of the Lion Safari Country occupied the land behind the Anaconda roller coaster, Kings Dominion also owns the land but used the greatest first part of it for storage instead of opening new attractions. Diamond Falls, another ride channel, debuted in 1985 until closing in 2002. Three sets slides slides Rivers Racing debuted in 1987 and remained open until early 1990.
Early 1990s/transition owned by Paramount
Kings Dominion continued adding new areas for a park in the early to mid-1990s. In 1990, they expanded the Hanna-Barbera Land to include more rides for children. The season 1991 saw the addition of its roller coaster next to large, the Arrow looper Anaconda, which was also the first roller coaster in the world to present an underwater tunnel. (Your part of the tunnel was below Lake Charles). Anaconda was also originally advertised as having six turns and continues to be charged that way. However, unlike Drachen Fire, reversing a six-Arrow looper which opened at Busch Gardens Williamsburg the following year, the Anaconda, is actually only four inversions: a vertical loop, a sidewinder and two consecutive corkscrews.
Kings Dominion opened its water park as Hurricane Reef in 1992. In his rookie season, he first presented the Chutes Monsoon (Two pairs of slides freely falling body, 70 and 50 feet (15 m) high, respectively), Torrential Twist (two blades closed body which involved around him) Pipeline (four blades open body), Cyclone (three body slides closed, the center of which was a free fall), Tidal Wave (two slides open, riders rode on inner tubes, Splash Island (a children's area with five water slides), and a lazy river. To build the water park, Kings Dominion filled two-thirds of Lake Charles approximation Candy Apple Grove area of the park, Anaconda continued to spend the rest of the lake.

Kings Dominion Theatre (named "The Paramount Theatre" during the era Paramount Parks)
Kings Dominion logo used from 1993 – 2002 in the Paramount (a magazine was used 2003-06)
Kings Dominion continued its growth when it became part of Paramount Parks in 1993 and changed its name to Paramount Kings Dominion. New attractions and areas of the theme park Paramount TV shows and appeared in movies from Paramount Kings Dominion almost every season that they were under Paramount's ownership. In 1993, they added a motion simulator attraction, originally with the movie Days of Thunder and Lion Safari County was removed at the end of season. The 1994 season saw the addition of a new theme park area for the 1992 Paramount motion picture Wayne's World, who characterized his rollercoaster third full-size timber, The Hurler, a store called The Rock, Shop and restaurant similar to the one in Wayne's World a Stan Mikita. Since then, the section Wayne's World was acquired by Candy Apple Grove (since renamed the Grove), Stan Mikita was converted to the Happy Days Cafe, and no longer has Hurler theming Wayne's World, except for a few spray-painted "Wayne's World" logo near the exit of the ride. The following year, another area for children, known as Nickelodeon Splat City, opened near the roller coaster Shockwave. This was later converted into Nick Central. Smurf Mountain was also removed in 1995, leaving a mountain of fiberglass asleep in the back of the park.
In 1996, Paramount's Kings Dominion presents its second roller coaster launched, and the first LIM-launched roller coaster, The Outer Limits: Flight of Fear. The Outer Limits had 56 miles (90 km) per hour of launch, four inversions, and a similar "spaghetti bowl" layout for the ride of the same name in Kings Island. Almost as remarkable as the release of The Outer Limits was the fact that the whole trip was in semi-darkness, the pilots did not could see where they were going. (Six Flags America, a nearby park, Maryland, presents another "spaghetti bowl" roller coaster with the same layout as Flight of Fear known as Jinx Joker. Jinx Joker, however, is a roller coaster overseas) five years after The Outer Limits open, Paramount Parks licensing agreement to use theming television program after the ride was appointed expires;. Limits to the exterior theming related to the ride and its queue was removed, and the ride was renamed Flight of Fear.
1997 marked the debut of Kidzville, a re-theming of the section of Hanna-Barbera. Added was a new roller coaster Taxi Jam, Scooby and Playpark has become a playpen construction theme called Kidz Construction Company. Cave Yogi was rethemed to Treasure Cave and full of scrappy theming of other tours. Many rides Kidzville as Phantom of the Scooby Doo's Coaster, Spaceport George Jetson, and Huck's Hot Rods, continued to give the names of the characters of Hanna-Barbera.
Paramount Kings Dominion continued what has become a trend the addition of roller coasters, released in 1998, when they opened the Volcano, The Blast Coaster at Old Lost Mountain in the world. previous mountain trips had all been removed several years before, and gave the mountain a volcano major transformation. Volcano, which was manufactured by Intamin AG, was the first LIM-launched inverted roller world coaster. The ride featured two separate launch points, a style Immelman returning from the mountain top, and three rolls of heart line on the way back down. (Explosions Huge fire are shot out. At the top of the mountain for added effect) volcano has been the subject of 1997 movie from Paramount Volcano, the other Paramount Parks added or inverted suspended coaster theme to Top Gun around the same time. During the next two seasons, Paramount's Kings Dominion expanded behind the hurricane Rebel Yell Reef Water and renamed it. (Most original Hurricane Reef remains open from 2006, the two areas are connected by a path in the Rebel Yell) Part New Water Pipeline Peak includes a set of four water slides closed, one of which (the Night Slider) is. world's tallest freefall slide dark. In 2000, Nick Central opened what was Nick Splat City and part of Kidzville.
Park added that his roller-coaster third release, Hypersonic XLC, in 2001. Hypersonic XLC, a Thrust Air 2000 Russian air launched made by S & S Power, launched pilots 0-80 miles (130 km) per hour in 1.5 seconds, taking them and inclined 87 degrees down a drop 87 degrees. The complete walk takes about 25 seconds. Hypersonic XLC broke frequently and was closed for the first three months of his second season, no other Paramount Parks installed a similar tour. However, Hypersonic XLC helped establish the reputation of Paramount Kings Dominion as "the Russian capital launched the world." Supersonic XLC was removed after the 2007 season.
The early 2000s saw Paramount's Kings Dominion opens new rides rides similar to existing other Paramount Parks. In 2002, the park opened its new wild mouse coaster, Ricochet. Carowinds also installed its Ricochet in 2002. Diamond Falls, the giant flume ride at Paramount's Kings Dominion, also closed that season, leading to several seasons of speculation on the part of park visitors on the tour which would take its place. The season 2003 saw Kings Dominion to become the end of various parks Paramount to open the Drop Zone Stunt Tower. The drop zone with Paramount's Kings Dominion, at 305 feet (93 m) tall, was the tallest freefall ride in the world when it opened. In 2004, Paramount's Kings Dominion added Scooby-Doo! and the Haunted Mansion; like Scooby-Doo Dark themed rides opened three other Paramount Parks during the three previous seasons. Next season, Paramount Kings Dominion added an inverted screw top called Tomb Raider: Firefall, which was an outdoor version of a similar ride called Tomb Raider: The Ride at Paramount's Kings Island. The differences between the two pilots were at the foot of Kings Dominion 'swing freely and at Kings Island is a floor. During the 2006 season, Paramount's Kings Dominion opened the Italian Job Turbo Coaster, its fourth launched coaster. Unlike the previously built coasters thrown at Paramount's Kings Dominion, each of which was more faster than its predecessor, the Italian Job Turbo Coaster is designed more like a family outing and has several releases, 40 miles (64 kilometers) per hour. Renamed Backlot Stunt Coaster The, in 2008, the ride is similar to the Backlot Stunt Coaster rides at Kings Island and Canada's Wonderland, which both opened in 2005.
Cedar Fair season (2006-present)
Logo used briefly in 2007 after the switch of the Paramount Parks. It is still used today in the signaling and the site of the park.
Control of the Paramount Parks had been transferred from Viacom, CBS Corporation at the beginning of the 2006 season, the parks themselves have been on sale since the offseason earlier. CBS made several controversial moves to Paramount's Kings Dominion during the 2006 season. First, a roller coaster based on The Italian Job had been announced on television as being open earlier in the season the park in 2006, which did not open until late May, almost two months on the station. Placing the ride was quite dubious, some enthusiasts have scoffed at the park administration to put the entry for The Italian Job, which was the subject of a prosecution of street among the Congo African theme park section near the Anaconda roller coaster. Secondly, visitors to the park during the 2006 season found that the trees in Grizzly queue were felled to make way for a new kart upcharge attraction called Thunder Raceway. Third, Paramount's Kings Dominion closed Flight of Fear. Paramount's Kings Dominion gave no indication in the previous season of fear that the flight would be closed for 2006. Rumors suggest that she would be transferred to another former Paramount Park; since Cedar Fair acquired Paramount's Kings Dominion, the park worked to start touring again operable. Flight of Fear reopened on August 18, ending speculation Transfer of walking and / or sale.
WaterWorks in 2007, showing the new Tornado.
On May 22, 2006, Cedar Fair Entertainment Co. announced they were buying the five Paramount Parks. The sale was completed on June 30, 2006. Park Paramount Kings Dominion kept its name until the end of the 2006 season and returned to its original name Kings Dominion beginning in the 2007 season. For the 2007 season, the park has reduced its admission in a single day for $ 5 to $ 44.95, one year after the Cedar Point had made the same change in their ticket prices. This was the first time the Kings Dominion never lowered ticket prices for a full season. Moreover, they brought back their discounts Starlight, which allows entry to the park for $ 29.99 after four hours. Kings Dominion WaterWorks expanded for the 2007 season, adding a wave pool second, called Tidal Wave Bay, a four-person family raft slide called Zoom Flume, and a Tornado ProSlide.
In December 2006, Hypersonic XLC Kings Dominion also put up for sale. The park announced plans to keep it running until a buyer was found. From the end of the 2009 season, was not sold. He remained in operation during the 2007 season and was closed and dismantled several weeks before the 2008 season began. Also during the 2007-2008 offseason, Cedar Fair park renamed last two outings to open with Paramount theming. The Italian Job: Turbo Coaster become Backlot Stunt Coaster and Tomb Raider: Firefall was called The Crypt. The Paramount Theatre also changed its name to Kings Dominion Theater.
The seasons of 2008 and 2009 saw Kings Dominion receives three rides that had operated at Geauga Lake during the final season of an amusement park Cleaning. Dominator opened on May 24, 2008, becoming a roller coaster at Kings Dominion roller first with five inversions. For the 2009 season, two walks apartment, once located at Geauga Lake, as Dominator, opened in 2009. Located near Rebel Yell, American became the Ferris wheel first Kings Dominion. El Dorado, a pendulum ride, opened in the former Hypersonic XLC's place beside the Skyflyer Xtreme.
For the 2010 season, Kings Dominion installed Intimidator 305, a 305 ft (92.464 m) tall gigacoaster by Intamin AG. The tour will have a lot of cable car, down the first 85 and a maximum speed of at least 92 mph (145 kph). The tour, which is about the late NASCAR racer Dale Earnhardt, was announced on August 20, 2009, and represents the largest ever capital investment in the park. He is scheduled to open early in the season of 2010. Also on the 2010 season, the Nickelodeon Universe Kidzville and areas of the park are being rethemed to Planet Snoopy, as well as areas for children in the Island and Canada's Wonderland of Kings. The park has renamed the theme tours of Hanna-Barbera in Kidzville to match the theme of Planet Snoopy, the park ending run of 35 years with Scooby Doo and other characters Hanna-Barbera.

Using a cable lift hill system similar to Millennium Force, Intimidator 305 takes riders up 305 feet before descending about 85 degrees, 300-foot first drop. Its total height is the height of the Drop Tower: Scream Zone and its first drop is equal to the first drop of Millennium Force. It will have the biggest drop to date in a mountain gig. The ride's top speed is 92 miles per hour will be fastest ever achieved by any floor located at Kings Dominion, and the roller coaster fifth fastest in North America.

The center slide is a slide in free fall, though not as high as Night Slider Pipeline Peak. The other two sheets of glass each other and have blades 360 degrees.
Freestylin '(opened in 1992 as Tidal Wave) is a pair of white blades open, the riders ride in a person inner tubes, to slide into a pool dive. Because riders each carry their own tubes, The ride has two separate loading stations on towers connected, and the line that begins as a line, is divided into two parts of the way up.
Big Wave Bay (opened 1999), the park's wave pool first, holds 650 thousand liters of water, its wave machines to generate waves of four meters.
Surf City Splash House (opened 1999) is a multi-level structure to play in the water with several smaller slides and a bucket of 800 liters which dumps all its water on guests several minutes.
Barefoot Lil 'Beach (opened 1999) is a small structure water play for young children.
Pipeline Peak (early 2000), the structure of the park's largest slide in 2006, is a set of four blades closed manufactured by ProSlide. The highest level of the tower features two chutes body: Night Slider, that in 77 feet (23 m) high, is the tallest waterslide in the world fall free dark and Power Plunge, a slide, since twist is 77 feet (23 m) tall at its beginning. Turbo Twister Slide and Rip, who are at 50 feet (15 m) of the lower tower, slides are set of two people who are open in several places in the middle of its course to splash water on the riders.
Tidal Wave Bay (opened in 2007) is the pool of the park's second wave. Several other Cedar Fair parks include multiple wave pools. Dorney Park opened a second wave pool in 2006, California's Great America will also open its second wave pools in 2007 and Michigan's Adventure has three wave pools of varying sizes and depths.
