There is time to stop having helmsmen rowing shells?
Let's face it, they simply are not necessary and that the single most reason is because they still have the tradition. I think all boats, including eight could work very well without them, no modification needed. If you want a better view forward, but there are options besides heavy helms. People will spend thousands of dollars on these boats days. They can afford to play in front of video cameras and video moniters in front of the headquarters of the course. For any motivation can be connected to a microphone wireless. No skippers needed. No extra weight in the Boat, no extra length to the boat to accommodate them, not expecting them to show up to practice without hearing them scream and yell all the time, most skippers NO.
