In the U.S., the small side) Boat (the wheel?
In the UK, Australia and other places where they drive on the left side of the road, obvious reasons, the driver's seat is on the right. And vice versa for the country where they drive on the right. The same logic applies to small craft business? Here in Australia the steering wheel seems to be always right. Not sure if there is a "keep left" rule with boat drivers here. Anyone?
Either or is personal preference. It is a convention, as you say to put the pilot station on the same side of their cars – But it matters little in practice. My work boats are built with the steering-side door and the operation side is the door too. The opposite works very well. I have used both, and prefer being left-handed door console, personally, like my arm is strong to the side to gaff the bubble and get gear. I have used boats with dual helms or more – is a simple matter of going through the command post and others continue, as all commands are repeated.
