Climate

SABLE MOUNTAIN LODGE.
Located outside the park headquarters Matambwe on the western border of the reservation. The camp is spread over a hillside with breathtaking views of the Uluguru Mountains. The closest camp TAZARA railway makes it the best option to travel Selous by train.
ACCOMMODATION
The original field consisted of eight stone houses all fully en suite and all with great views from balconies for Uluguru Mountains.
Then, two bands of tents also elevated on stilts overlooking the Uluguru were added slightly apart from the houses. They also are spacious with large bathrooms and balconies.
Finally, two tents honeymoon luxury bands were also raised on stilts were built across the main hill overlooking a valley and Beho Beho Hills. With the outdoor shower and private pool representing arguably the best value accommodation in Selous.
FACILITIES
There two main restaurants and bar areas, a further down the hill near the stone house and a hilltop beside the pool.

Safaris
The camp is located just outside the reservation, it is best to decide on the options and book the safari camp. Early in the morning and afternoon half day game drives., A full day tour including a safari by boat on Lake Tagalala. Walking safaris.
THE VERDICT
Good value for money and very friendly staff make this a very personalized. Unpretentious and only present in the Selous that directly benefits the local communities surrounding the reservation through your visit, 5pp/night $ goes directly to the community.

Selous IMPALA CAMP
The camp is situated in a prime location means Borassus aethiopum palms and trees Tamarind, overlooking the Rufiji River. Within the reserve.
ACCOMMODATION
Just six luxury tents on raised platforms with private balconies overlooking the river Rufiji. All tents are en suite and furnished in period style.
FACILITIES
There is a large and comfortable building dinner straw and lowered central bar with wide open balconies with river views.

Selous CAMP MBEGA
The camp is located in its own forest reserve on the banks of the Rufiji River, near the east gate of the Mtemere Selous Game Reserve.
ACCOMMODATION
There are eleven stalls mostly built on wooden platforms, mosquitoes and insects, with private bathroom and a balcony. Nine tents overlooking the Rufiji River. A look at a dried pond on the back of the field.
FACILITIES
The restaurant and bar are situated under a thatched roof of palm leave around a mahogany tree, in front of the Rufiji River. There is also a bar area and additional sundown. A resident group of black and white colobus monkeys playing around the bar area.

THE VERDICT
This represents the lowest camp mounted / submit option to visit and Selous is the basic value, but good. The camp does not pretend to be anything other than their own and if you are willing to forego some comforts in order to visit Selous then this is the best base to do it cheaply.
Rufiji RIVER CAMP
The largest camp established and largest Selous is located near the gate on the banks of the Rufiji Mtemere River.Inside booking.
ACCOMMODATION
Twenty tents are arranged along the river bank, overlooking the sunset and the river from a private sitting area. Tents are simple but comfortable with twin beds and private bathroom and shower.
FACILITIES

THE VERDICT
A functional field, with a fantastic location and is always the chance of hippos place of your tent. Good value in the range of average budget, but none of the fancy extras that can pump the increased costs in some fields.
Big 5 Lodge Selous
This new hostel is located in the Rufiji River, about 20 minutes from the border of the park Selous Game Reserve, and 30 minutes of track Mtemere.
Selous Big 5 Lodge has 4 bands (huts) and a family bungalow with a hot and cold water, showers and sanitary facilities, double bed with nettings mosquito and a wardrobe. All bungalows overlook the majestic Rufiji River, with its abundance of birds, and sometimes you can spot the hippos, and even crodiles directly from the store!

JIMBIZA Lodge Selous
The new Jimbiza Lodge is located on the banks of the River Rufiji River, near the village of Mloka, just outside the Selous Game Reserve, Mtemere Gate. It is very well built, and can definitely compete with the fancy shops within the game reserve.
Jimbiza Lodge Selous provide five spacious walk in tents and 10 bungalows. All accommodations have bathrooms with hot and cold showers, mosquito nettings and a large terrace with river views.
The view of the Rufiji River are fabulous! In an exclusive Safari boat you can see lots of hippos, crocodiles and many bird species different. There are also many different species of native trees found in this area.

There is a restaurant directly on the banks of the river, and a bar and a separate lounge. In addition, the hostel has a small swimming pool swimming pool where you can cool off during the day, if you do not decide any of the activities below.

HIGH BUDGERT ACCOMMODATIONS
Beho Camp Beho
Located in western Selous on the plain in front of Lake Tagalala, this is NOT one of the few camps situated on the river Rufiji. However, the panoramic view and a procession of wild animals do not make it a problem.
ACCOMMODATION
Recently renovated after years of neglect to 8 stone houses are very spacious and well furnished, to the point of excess. The houses are open and have faced their own telescopes games to see the comfortable chairs in the house.
The outdoor showers are superbly constructed in local stone and wood and the overall feeling is that Beho Beho different from other fields is this is more like a small hut in a bedroom
FACILITIES
The dining area and huge central bar is provided along the lines of an old game show complete with full size pool table, leather chairs and Persian rugs. Meals may be taken on the main board, one of the various checkpoints on the main building or under the stars.
The small pool is located near the main building and a pond attracts animals throughout the day.
Safaris
Game drives, walking safaris and expertly guided safaris by boat on Lake Tagalala. The walking safaris in particular this region are being recommended.
THE VERDICT
The course has been beautifully restored and is in a scenic location. A little more the extravagance of the top is reminiscent of a traditional colonial hunting lodge. Managing and directing the staff have a very strong Zimbabwean and South African influence.
Selous Safari Camp
A luxury tent camp located on the banks of the Rufiji River. The camp has recently been reformulated and is now divided into two discrete areas, each with its own area and dining area, and its own pool.
One of the two areas is available for small groups in a purely private basis.

About the Author
Otto began his experience with wildlife when he was a young boy. He was born in a small village in the southern Selous Game Reserve buffer zones. He received his primary and secondary education in his village and then began working in Selous with a safari company. He later decided to train in Arusha where he received his advanced certificate in wildlife and tourism.
He regularly works in many Tanzanian national parks & game reserves such as Selous, Mikumi, Ruaha, Udzungwa and Saadani. He has seven years experience working as a safari guide in the African wilderness and brings his passion, knowledge and expertise to every safari experience
